Historical People from Which to Choose for Task 1

You and your partner will choose one of the following historical people to
complete Task 1.
- Mahatma Gandhi helped free the people of India
from British rule through nonviolent resistance beginning in the early
1900's.
- Susan B. Anthony devoted herself to the cause
of women's rights during the late 1800's.
- Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery in 1849
and secretly worked to help others escape.
- Sojourner Truth was a supporter of the
antislavery and women's rights movements in the mid-1800's.
- Rosa Parks is known as "the mother of the
civil rights movement," based on her actions in 1955.
- Chief Joseph, a leader of the Nez Perce tribe,
wanted the same rights for his people as the white man in the mid-1800's.
- Cesar Chavez was a labor organizer and civil
rights activist during the 1960's and 1970's.
