The Internet
an Educational Babysitter?

Definitely NOT! The Internet is not in any way meant to be a babysitter for your child. I express this thought ferociously because I know there are people who use the Internet to try to hurt children. Internet use by your children should be monitored at all times.

The Internet is one of the most powerful learning tools we have, however, like any tool for learning, children (and adults) need to learn how to use it safely, efficiently and creatively.

Television, libraries, music and the Internet provide both appropriate and safe learning opportunities. However, there are also inappropriate uses of these learning tools. I only provide links to sites I have used and visited, but I cannot verify you or your child won't find your way onto an inappropriate site. If at any time you or your child find inappropriate material on any of the linked websites, notify me immediately and I will remove the link.

Please work WITH your children as they learn to navigate the web and explore different sites. While a computer tucked away in a bedroom might be a perfect place for a student to concentrate, one of the best places to monitor your child's Internet use is by placing the computer in the middle of the family room! Besides monitoring your children's activity on the Internet, you will be fascinated at what's out there for them (and for us) to learn! Enjoy!
