The only way you'll improve your keyboarding skills is to PRACTICE! Although practice doesn't necessarily make us perfect, just as in athletics and/or music, practice will help us IMPROVE!
Typing software like Typing Tutor or Mavis Beacon are acceptable software packages that will provide typing lessons and keep track of your progress. If you're interested in buying a speed skin (to keep you from looking at the keyboard, click here.)
Remember, Billy Joel doesn't play the piano slouched over or use his fingers to hunt and peck the piano keys. Likewise, proper posture when you're sitting at the computer and correct home row positioning of your fingers is important if you're going improve with your keyboarding and be a "master" keyboarder.
Research shows that if you mentally group letters into words, your typing will improve. Don't think about keying in individual letters, it takes longer. Instead, think about your finger movements as you type in common words (the, and, they, will, be) etc.
Typing Goals by Grade Level
4th Grade - 15-20 WPM
5th Grade - 18-25 WPM
6th Grade - 20-28 WPM
7th Grade - 26-32 WPM
8th Grade - 30-38 WPM
